The scheme aims to give Hertfordshire residents added confidence in the traders they employ, as well as helping reputable traders in the county to stand out from the crowd.

Businesses that work in the home improvements and motor industries will be able to apply for a joint endorsement from Which? Trusted Traders and Hertfordshire Trading Standards.

What does this mean if you’re a trader in Hertfordshire?

If you want to become a member of the scheme:

  • you’ll need to pass the Trusted Traders assessment process, which includes credit and background checks
  • we’ll check references from your previous customers and you must agree to follow our Code of Conduct
  • you’ll also be given a DBS check and a Trading Standards intelligence check.

If you pass all the assessments and become a member of the scheme, you’ll be able to display a joint Which? Trusted Traders and Hertfordshire Trading Standards endorsement logo for your customers to see.

Toby Corrie of Watford Roofing is one of the traders who’s achieved the joint endorsement. He said: ‘This scheme is brilliant for traders. It will give consumers real confidence in the contractors they employ. It’s something I can point to and show I’m a reliable trader and have been vetted by two trustworthy organisations, and that’s really important in my view.’

Fellow scheme member Melanie Wooding-Jones, of Redbourn Auto Solutions, said: ‘Being a member of this scheme is very valuable, as it lets our customers know they’re dealing with a reputable business. It gives an incredibly strong message to have the local Trading Standards endorsement as well as the national Which? brand.’

If you’re based elsewhere in the UK, you can become a Which? Trusted Trader through our standard endorsement scheme. Find out how we can help your business to stand out.

Making it easier for consumers

Hertfordshire Trading Standards chose to work with Which? Trusted Traders because it was looking for a partner it could trust, with the same drive to help consumers.

‘Our Trading Standards team and Which? Trusted Traders both aim to make it easier for consumers in Hertfordshire to find a reputable trader,’ said Richard Thake of Hertfordshire County Council. ‘We hope this partnership can be mirrored in other parts of the UK.’

Hertfordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner David Lloyd said: ‘I am delighted to see local and national services coming together to provide a platform for consumers that offers them access to good, local, honest businesses in Hertfordshire.’
